The school is highly commited to providing a high quality PE curriculum. This curriculum aims to give the children a range of sporting activities both in PE lessons and in after school clubs. We invest money in an outside provider, Premier Sport. Premier Sport provide high quality PE lessons and Clubs and also deliver training to staff in school. This ensures that our children are challenged and are taught by staff who understand the sporting PE skills needed for each sport. All children are encouraged to participate in regular exercise to maintain their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
We enjoy giving children opportunities to compete with other schools. It is important to have a healthy attitude towards competition and to strive to do your best, however, we also place great emphasis on children participating and competing for experience and for fun. Our Sports day encourages children to participate where they can and to demonstrate the development of their skills.
Throughout their time at St. Werburgh’s, children are offered a balanced range of invasion games, striking and fielding, net games, dance, gym and athletics activities. At some stage in Key Stage 2, all children go swimming. Our aim is that every child will be able to swim by the time they leave in Year 6 and our success rate for achieving this is currently 82%.
